After many days in Jolly Harbor it was time to leave.  It is easy to get stuck in a marina that is calm and quiet which Jolly Harbor is.  With a great supermarket close by, fantastic beach and good restaurants why leave!

Reality strikes and we have to move on.  So the next step was to check out of Immigration/ Customs/Port Authority which are all located in the same small building making it very easy.

Once that was done the marina staff helped us out of the berth and over to the fuel dock to fill up.  Only needed 360 liters of diesel.

Then out through the channel which can silt up.  Still has 3.2 meters of depth which is plenty for us.  Once out into the sea we set a path to avoid the coral reefs and shoals to Deep Bay.  Why that name is strange to me since it is  it that deep.  But whatever, we motored up against the wind into the bay.  First we took a look inside then decided to anchor out a bit to 1) avoid the jackhammer noise from the new construction onshore and 2) to not have new boats arriving anchoring on top of us.  Even anchoring out is only 3.5 meters of water.

Nice stop protected from the northerly swells but the small ones from the west enter at their pleasure.  Not a crowded anchorage and everyone set their anchors at reasonable distance from others.  The water is turbid here from all the wave action so snorkeling is poor as we found out.

Being here you are only a long dinghy ride to St Johns the capital if you wish to visit.  The east side of the bay is all white sandy beach available to lounge for hours if you wish with no interference.

The ship Andre sank at the entrance of the bay.  One hundred years ago it was carrying coal to the islands but apparently caught fire and they attempted to save it in Deep Bay.  No luck and it burned and sank here.  Its mast still reaches the surface but the turbid water made it tough to see anything else.

Deep Bay anchorage.  Beyond the picture is St Johns the capital.  Nice sandy beach but water is turbid for snorkeling.
