Further south to U. Lucice on Otok Brac
43:18.56N 16:26.88E Left a bit late, around 10:00 but who cares. Once we
rounded the point we actually could sail. With Force 4 winds behind us we
set the sails for wing & wing. Mainsail out to one side and the
headsail out to the other. Need to keep an eye out for slight wind shifts
but it does move us along quite nicely. Set a gibe preventer to be
safe. Interestingly we caught a few other boats with only the headsail
out. Once they saw us the attempted the same wing &wing.
Sailing was nice for a change and we made good progress toward Otok Solta when
we were planning to stop for fuel. As we approached O. Solta we crossed paths with the Yacht
Week Regatta. This is the last day of the weekly run and they all
“race” back to the marina. Actually they looked like they
were doing a good job and we passed safely through the end of the field without
incident. Standard COLREGS apply even if they think they are racing and
have the right of way. We approached the fuel dock at O. Solta and realized that
this is the last day of the weekly rental boats and they all need fuel.
There were 15 boats ahead of us and 15 knots wind. Needless to say we
decided to bag the fuel and head to our anchorage on Brac. Now that this is the third time in U. Lucice we have this
down pretty good. Nearly all mooring were occupied so we grabbed a small
one. The dingy helper said that a full size one would free up in one hour
and we should grab that. Just as he said it did and we picked up the buoy
close to shore. Got a chance to meet another American boat, and Amel 54 from
Long Island. Nice folks who were enjoying the summer. They were
planning to bring the boat to a marina in a week for the end of their summer
sailing. Some people have to work and are required to go back! |
