Next is Stupica
43:38.15N 15:41.22E Next island south we visited is Otok Zirje and the cove U.
Stupica. Now this sounds dumb doesn’t it, but it is a nice place
for a overnight stop. Again little wind so motor again. We passed
by a few other potential coves in case this destination is full. The
advantage of this is that it is on the far southern end of the island and
provides a good place to set off for the next day. Entering the cove there are a couple of rock reefs that are
not marked but do show on the charts. Needless to say we passed by
safely. In the cove we chose a mooring bouy that was away from the
crowds as best we could. To Pat’s surprise the mooring line was
very short and we could not bring the bouy onto the boat to attached our
line. Fast thinking and a little acrobatics got the line secured to the
bow without falling overboard. Actually it was good the line was short
since the moorings tend to be close together. It is also possible to anchor in this cove if you pick the
location in a sandy bottom. Several boats did do this later in the day. Again a nice place for an overnight stay, nothing on shore
as far as food or provisions. There was one old fort on top of the
hill. These areas were defended against the Turks and other invaders.
The only invader today was the fee collector, 200 Kuna (about 35 dollars). Boats mooring in the anchorage and barely visible are the
remaining wall of the fort on top of the hill to the left. Leaving and heading south. No wind but no waves
either. |
