Leaving Dubrovnik
42:47.3N 17:22.6E Leaving Dubrovnik we fueled at the dock. Interesting
to have a current to contend with as well as slight wind. No issue but
need to think about it. Headed north to the National Park in Polace on O.
Miljet. Once we cleared the small islands we actually put the sails
out. It started at 5 knots wind and built enough to enjoy a good sail for
three hours. Interesting to watch all the other sailboats play follow the
leader. Once we put our sails out the others did the same. Being a
larger boat we easily passed though the rental crowd along the way. Of
course the wind began to change direction and we would need to tack and tack to
make further headway. So again the engine came on. One rental boat
did keep sails up and tacked vigorously and did a good job. On Persevere
tacking is a big effort and I am not into that with just two people. Arriving into the National Park area was very
beautiful. Small islands protecting the entrance and the strong smell of
pine trees make it even better. The anchorage we chose was very well
protected from most directions. Not too crowded with boats and we chose
to follow the lead of another USA boat and anchor in the middle in 15 meters of
water. That keeps most of the rental boats away since they normally
prefer less than 10 meters. Along the anchorage is a small town, mainly restaurants that
offer free berthing if you buy dinner. Many of the charter boats went
there, glad we didn’t. Good peaceful night, stars and the fragrant smell of
pine. There is a small fee for using the National Park but it includes a
ticket for a boat trip to the inland salt water lakes. The Park Agents
come by in the evening to collect the fee. Anchorage in National Park. We are about in the
center. |
