We left Nettuno and had a wonderful sail to Ponza, a small island off the coast.  Winds were 20-25 knots at 120 degrees apparent.  We were comfortably able to make 6-8 knots without fuss.  We did have some dolphins ride our bow wave for a few miles.

Once to Ponza we headed for the main harbour to get protection from the wind and be close to town.  The former individual quays have been removed since the owners refused to pay the fees to the goverment.  Guess who wins.  So now most of the harbour is open to anchoring but you still must be out of the ferry turning basin.  If not it is at your own risk because they have a schedule and do not seem to worry about others.

We found a nice area in 4 meters of water and let out 30 meters of chain rode.  Winds were 10 - 15 knots so we were sitting good.

We took the dingy into town and to give Simon his well received shore break.  The town just at the beginning to re-opening for the season so not all the shops were open.  Obviously a tourist town, very popular with the local mainland boaters but well worth the stop.  For overnight berthing, there is an option to use the day tripper ferry docks for stern-to berthing but be gone before the first morning ferry.  There is no mooring line so the anchor is used for the bow mooring line.  Lots of entertainment watching the charter boats try and try to set an anchor and stern to berth.  They eventually get it done.

This island is really beatiful and it is a shame we had only one night stay because the weather was supposed to get bad and the protection is minimal for a southeast blow.
