Weather was perfect for walking around town, a little cloudy but cool.  Our first visit was to the National Archeological Museam which essentially houses all the important art from Pompeii and Herculaneum.  In fact during the centuries of unearthing the site they decided to cut the paintings from the wall. frame them and move them to a safe place, now the museum.  To get to the museum we took the local Metro (subway), actuallly efficient.  Just keep in mind that Naples is not the most upscale city and does have its issues.  However, I worked in Newark New Jersey for 12 years and this is not that bad.  Litter and graffiti are an issue but even Zurich has grafitti.  By the way Pompeii wall also contain original grafitti from slogans, to election comments to pictures.  So the Naples grafitti has historical roots.

I will not fill in too much about the art works in the museum.  Most of the items can be found on the internet.  However the museum is very well managed an is something to be proud of for the city.

Example of the wall paintings that were cut out, framed in wood and relocated.

Assumed to be not a portrait of a real person but more of a _expression_ of a women engrossed in thought.

Just a few of the many statues

Some of these are just huge, three times my height.  I do not know why she is pointing at the ball in her hand.

After the museum we went into the old part of the city.  Even today it is a mix of ancient and new.  Narrow streets, old cobblestone, old great buildings hidden behind newer structures.

Typical old town street.

This was almost hidden from view on the street.
