A break in the foul weather allowed us to motor
over to Naples. Short trip with calm waters we cruised at 8.5 knots.
Of course speed is good when the pass between Punta di Torre Fumo and I. di
Procidia is the main ferry route. Just to add to the mix are the small
fishing boats occupied with their nets and do not have to worry about traffic,
they have the rights. Entering the Gulf of Naples the horizon is dominated
by Mount Vesuvius, shorter after 24 August 79 AD when it blew its lid and buried
Pompeii and other less famous cities.
The marina at Naples is a combination of pleasure
boats, fishing boats and of course ferries. The marinas advantage is that
it is located right in the middle of town. The disadvantage is that it is
in the middle of town. We have noticed that the Naples residents drive
with more brovato that those further north. In Rome there are three
controls on the car that are used. The gas pedal first, brakes second and
the horn third. Here it is gas first, horn second and brakes third.
If the brakes actually stop the car then the horn is mandatory. All of
this was put to great use when the waterfront road was closed on Saturday to
have a Formula 1 car, from the Red Bull team, run up and down the waterfront
road. Closing the road was pure chaos and required substantial use of the
horns.
 Traffic chaos
Propably 2,000 people flocked over to watch
the Red Bull car. True to their current season they can not get a break
with rain and in the middle of the exibition runs it rained. End of
show.
