This morning we made our way back to Solta for fuel.  Not surprisingly the fuel dock was not busy since the charter boats have all made it back to their respective marinas.  Simple and easy refueling and then back on to Vis.

We were comfortable going to Vis since we had been there before and checked the Yacht Week schedule to make sure they were not coming this night.  All best plans run afoul.  It turns out other flotillas decided to use the harbor that night,  These were much more rude and demanding people who unfortunately many were Croatians on a “ sailing regatta”.  They felt they had the right to the berths and just forced themselves into every little spot and even those that were not usable.  This was the worse of the charter boaters we ever experienced.  Again the Pilot Guide and others call Vis that place not overwhelmed by tourist.  It is exactly the opposite.  I will never go back to this again.

We checked out of Croatia here for Italy.  Croatia had the final squeezing money out of our pockets.  There is a fee for everything.  You pay for the berth, customs, exit fees, etc.

As much as we liked many things about Croatia this was another rude assault on boaters.  As we have been told by others Croatia is one of the most expensive places to cruise a sailboat.  If you can anchor deep then it is possible to avoid some charges but that puts you out of the places you wanted to see in the first place.  Croatia is worth a week or two but not much more.

Another thing we noted as we traveled was that most marine life is overfished leaving just rocky barren coastlines.  There seems to be little regulation except the fact that fishermen can’t make a living since things are depleted.  Therefore less people fish for a living.

So goodbye Croatia.
