After a couple of days we had a chance to visits several areas.  We did find out that Nettuno does have a baseball team and a minor league size stadium.  The team was founded during WWII as a result of the American military personnel playing the game.  It caught on in several Italian cities and there continues to be an active league.  Nettuno was strong in the 90`s and did recently make the play-offs.

In Nettuno is the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery for WWII Army and Navy personnel lost in Sicily, Nettuno and a few other close by areas.  Over 7,861 men are buried here and the names of an additional 3,095 missing in action are listed on the chapel walls.  The American Battle Monument Commision maintains the facility in a very high level of care.  In Anzio is the British Cemetery for their soldiers and seamen.

We did walk over to Anzio for a day trip.  Anzio has more of a town center than Nettuno with a walking mall, very nice.  Both Anzio and Nettuno have a mix of old and newer building with restoration underway of several of the old waterfront houses.

Of course the old traditions of fishing survive and do make for very fresh fish for dinner.  The Anzio marina is more of a working marina than Nettuno.  Several shipyards are located there along with the fishing boats.
