30 July 2011

Left Genoa around 08:00 and off to San Remo.  Weather typical now, hot, humid and no wind.  So another 64 mile motor in 8 and ½ hours.  Not much along this coast to see in the haze just the maritime Alps locked in clouds.

In San Remo we me up with our friend and agent from three years ago.  He arranged a berth, check-out with the Coast Guard and a haircut for me.  Full service.

Having spent many months over wintering here a few years ago there is nothing new we wanted to see.  Just nice to be able to buy good fresh produce in the markets, nice fish caught that morning, plenty of great cheeses and hams and finally cheap but good local wines.

Talking with some people we learned that the marina and particularly boats, suffered damage over the past winters.  The storms were very strong, breaking over the seawall and crashing down on boats along the outer wall.  Those unattended suffered a lot of damage hitting he concrete wall and having bollards ripped off from the surges.  We never experienced that when we were here.  So repairs were made to the outer areas and boats again were using the berth, but this is summer so no issues expected.

One of the alley in the old sections of town.  Taken at mid-day but still need lights to see.
