On yesterday's blog I noted that we would try and set the spinnaker and keep it up all night. Well as soon as I sent the note a squall appeared and we took down the spinnaker as the winds began to grow. Luckily we are now proficient working on the foredeck and the spinnaker came down without any issue. Of course we did get a little wet from the rain.
Once it was down we decided to go back to the poled out genoa and mainsail as it is much easier to reef during a squall. That served us well all night, making the same speed as the spinnaker and was quiet because the seas had calmed.
In the middle of the night the winds changed direction so we gybe and set the genoa out to the starboard side without a pole. There was enough wind to keep it set and we did make good speed.
When dawn came the winds began to change and drop in strength. Now we are sitting in a big calm spot in the ocean barely making 2 knots to the south, about the only direction we can move and not heard directly away from St Lucia
So while we are thinking about what to do next we decided to cast out the fishing line and maybe catch something to eat for dinner. First time since Morocco have we fished. We will see what out luck brings this time.
So we have 428 nautical miles to go and at this speed it will take forever!
Kind regards
