Since the weather looked bad for Ponza we sailed (actually motored) the 42 NM to Ischia.  Passing I. di Ventotene along the way with its small Roman port and nearby i. di S. Stephano with its prison.

Isola di S. Srephano with prison on top built during Mussolini's reign.

On Ischia we selected porto Casamicciola as a well protected location for the predicted storm.  Extensive remodeling is being performed along the waterfront.  New pedestrian walkway with plantings to be installed.  A reconfiguration of the floating docks provides better use of the harbour.  Of course the normal busy ferry traffic exists along the northeast side.  In the town there are a variety of restaurants as long as you want pasta or pizza but the settings are nice.  The supermarket is close and a well stock wine store.  Marina people are very helpful assisting with berthing and registration.

View from boat at night.  The marina is quite empty since the season has not really started.  In the summer this place will be filled to the brim with boats from the mainland.
