In the morning we left Vis and the rude charter boaters behind.  Glad to leave.  Around the corner of the island we passed Klosters anchored in a cove.  Waved hello and continued on our way.  We selected Vieste Italy since it was close to Vis and would make the crossing of the Adriatic shorter.  Vieste is not really a port for our boat but we would try to fit into the harbor.

The trip over was a non event, good thing.  We did pass an interesting island half way that is part of Croatia (Otok Palagruza).  Motor was on the whole way as there was again no wind.  Had arranged with the marina to give them a call one hour out and it worked well.  They came to meet us in their dingy and directed us to the slip.  Vieste is actually a mix of marinas but it would not be obvious to anyone just looking at the place.  On the south side there are three marinas that compete of the boats.  All are kinda rude and the line handlers whistle at each boat trying to hawk them into their place.  Obviously this is all part of their means of making some money for the marina.

We previously chose out marina beforehand.  On the north side is a twenty year old facility that never got finished.  Not unusual for Italy or Greece.  Now a new company from Rome has bought the place and is investing to get it going. In fact it just open two weeks prior.  There is new shrubbery, toilets, showers, office and floating docks.  Much more to come this year.  It should be a very nice place when it is done.  The other nice thing is the staff are employees and not “hawkers” for business.  Their went out of their way to help use berth and provided any help with arrangement in the town.  There were only five boat in the marina but expect more as it gets known.

The town of Vieste was a nice surprise.  We enjoyed visiting and had a great lunch at a restaurant overlooking one of the small bays.  Food was great.  We visited a shell museum and bought supplies in town.  There are old parts of the town with narrow streets as well as sandy beaches.

Right next to the marina is a very large sandy beach that like the Gulf side of Florida allows you to walk out a long distance before you get over your waist.  Water was nice and cool after a long walk in town.

Last island of Croatia heading west toward Italy.  Coast Guard station at top, great duty if you want to be a hermit.  Must be plenty of lobster around judging by all the pots placed around the island.  About 25 miles east of Italy and 70 miles west of mainland Croatia.

“Our” marina.  Yes we are the boat on the second floating dock.  In the foreground is areas to be converted to a shipyard and hard storage.  Nice and quiet place overnight.

The other marinas.  Run down and the staff are not very nice.  Other boaters have complained about these places and were treated rudely.  Rumor has it that many will leave here and keep their boats at the new marina.
