The trip over to Nisoi Paxoi was only an hour and a half, but a wet one.  A small sqall came up from the south and dropped some rain along with lightning.  Nothing really bad just something to make the trip interesting.  Our destination was the north end of the small island to a harbor called Ormos Lakka.  We knew it would be shallow and a bit tight but not until you arrive at these places does it really make sense.

Upon arrival we realized that the water depth limited very much where we could anchor.  It also meant that we would need to be right in the middle of the small harbor.  With the winds coming out of the north the mouth of the harbor was open to some chop, not making it very pleasant.  After a few minutes of discussion we backed out and headed south.  The rain had stopped so it was not so bad.  Just a bit of chop from the earlier winds.

We passed south of Gaios, the main town on the island.  There is berthing along the town quay, but again very shallow for us and we did not want to be on a town quay anyway.  Just south of town is a very nice anchorage called Mongonisi.  According to the pilot guide it was well protected and had good anchor holding.  Upon arrival it had a few boats but not too bad.  But again with the deeper draft of our boat it looked tight.  So we dropped anchor in 9 meters of water and backed to shore and tied off.  This limits the swing of the boat, especially helpful in tight anchorages.  Water depth near shore was much deeper than the pilot guide or charts indicate.  In fact later on swimming around the anchorage it appears that all the depths are deeper than the charts.  Most likely these charts at made from very old data.  With the recent earthquakes things are not what they were in the past, in this case the water is several meters deeper.

This turned out to be a good spot for two nights.  Close to town, either 30 minute walk or quick dingy ride.  The anchorage has two tavernas, a small beach and an open wifi access reachable from the boat.

We met a very nice British women and her dog Sky.  Sky is a Flat Coated Retriever just like Simon and Luka were.  After some conversation we had a nice social hour on the boat, dog included.  Since he was the same size as Simon and Luka we were able to provide almost a years supply of heartworm, flea and arthritis medication we had bought for Simon.  Good to see it was almost the exact things Sky was taking already.

The town of Gaios is a tourist town with tripper boats and ferries coming from the mainland and Corfu.  Not overwhelming though with tourist this time of year.  The restaurants were good and the was even a COOP grocery store to buy a few provisions.  Being Sunday we missed the time the butcher was open but no problem.

Back to the boat and we watched the evening rush of boats come into the anchorage.  There is enough room for 10-12 boat if everyone thinks about where they are laying their anchors, not the case though.  There is also a quay on the northeast side that shallower boats can easily stern-to.  It does get heavily used when a flotilla arrives.

Nice place, water is clear, some fish, one sunken small fishing boat and generally very quiet.
