A day of contrasts . Frustratingly light winds as we passed behind a low pressure area but strong current taking us back the way we had come . Then overnight moderate northerlies which were not on the forcast  which took us nicely southwest but culminated in two hours of galeforce winds around daybreak . Penny was on watch and fortunately realised wahat was happening and got me up to reef the sails before the worst of the storm was upon us .We are now settling down to a sunny though chillly day ( to us used to tropical heat) but still too roly for eggs and bacon . Eat it or have it confiscated by NZ customs .
