Chaguaramas again. September is that month we have to wait patiently for all the hurricanes to pass. 95% of all Atlantic hurricanes come in September. This year lots more than normal were forecast due to climate change. But since Beryl in July there been hardly any! Then I read that the LACK of hurricanes might also be due to climate change. Dang. So either way climate change (or weird climate stability) is 1/8billionth my fault (or probably a bit more).

Anyway one boatfixing issue whilst here is the rear swim platforms. These were teak-faced from factory, but ageing. So two years ago I got them replaced in simple white non-slip. Teak is not eco friendly, it’s heavy, unnecessary and needs maintenance. One reason I bought this boat is was without a teak cockpit - less maintenance and cooler underfoot too.

But I need new rear swim platforms as the replacement white one aren’t staying in place and one flew off in following sea. Bad gluing. So this time I’m getting the teak expert in Powerboats to make new ones AND new forward walkway in teak, because that’s all weathered away too.

New teak swim platforms will be very fab and new-boat sexy. Expensive but sneakily exciting. Sneakily because there’s a bit of soul-searching due to the use of teak and aforementioned eco-unfriendly climate change thing. Chopping down more teak trees which take 200+ years to grow isn’t good. But there again, either it’s me with the very last teak deck for no good justifiable good reason OR perhaps a descendent in the 22nd century. Case closed.
