We
set off early in the morning from Mogan, as recommended, to get round to the NE
of Gran Canaria, but after rounding the SE corner we decided to wait
another day and anchored at Porto Pasito Blanco. Quiet beach outside the
marina with two other cats already there. Caught up on some sleep
and had a nice swim off the back of the boat. Upped anchor
again in the evening as the swell seemed to have lessened and
set off North again.
What
a ride, lots of banging (motoring) into a Force 8 with huge swell and
crested waves all coming directly from the direction we needed to go. After
several hours of praying (by Anette) and saying 'nearly past the airport,
( 10 miles to port), it will get better then' (by Paul) which of course it
didn't, we finally rounded into the bay at Las Palmas, when the computer decided
that all the banging was no good and died. Managed to follow the row of yellow
buoys and anchored off the beach outside the marina at 0200. What a horrible,
horrible night!!!! Later that morning we got into a tight space in the
marina and started to enjoy Peurto de la Luz (where the ARC will be starting
from later on this year). A couple of days shopping at El Corte Ingles, several
chandlery visits (this is a boat shoppers paradise!), a tiled galley sink,
and bad hangover (several actually) from local brew later, we are now at
anchor again outside the marina, ready to set off for our final island of this
trip, Lanzarote.
My
turn now (Paul); this place has some of the best bars ever! We stopped at
a bar where each table had its own beer pump! You just helped
yourself and it got recorded automatically on a screen - where everyone knew
what you'd drunk - hence intense competition -brilliant!!
Just
2 pictures today - didn't take any of the 'orrible weather - but one of Anette
with sundowner drinks and the other of Talulah moored stern-to in Las
Palmas........more later
