We left Horta on the island of Faial this morning at 1045, in a blaze of brilliant sunshine - but hardly any wind! Auspiciously enough, the odometer on the boat read 13,000 miles, and we're bound for the southern end of the island of Graciosa, via Sao Jorge. From there we'll set a northerly course for a few days, before heading in a more easterly direction up to the English Channel. This will be to take advantage of the east setting ocean current, a greater incidence of westerly winds, and also to avoid being pushed into the Bay of Biscay.

Lots of sea birds seen, but no whales - yet. There a lots of jelly fish too - and we now know they are Portuguese Men o' War. So nobody is doing any swimming!
