Big Pacific 1

We are a week out of the Galapagos now and have sailed 900 miles over the ground.  The winds have been generally light from the south-east, which is a comfortable point of sailing but occasionally we have had to put up with very light airs from right astern.  We have put the engine in gear for only 4 hours since we left the islands.  For most of the time we have enjoyed the half to one knot benefit of the Equatorial current (that is what it is called now that it has turned the corner and is heading west) but yesterday, inexplicably, we experienced a half knot counter current for about six hours.

The weather is getting warmer, there is a full moon and the bright nights are glorious.  We are in radio contact with our friends but there is plenty of time to think of everybody back in Europe.
