Much good news

The lift out duly happened quite quickly this morning. I was in the marina office at 8, with no sign of progress for a while until about 8-45 when they said they could do the lift out at 9-30. By this time Allan was in the queue at the airline office trying to find out where his luggage was….. but he made it onboard just before I needed to leave for the lift.
There was no sign of structural problems with the rudder, or any sign of external damage, so while the cause of water ingress remains unknown we are happy that the rudder will not fall off in a hurry, so that’s good news!
We got back to our berth to find Jao the technician waiting for us who duly helped to get the plotter and instruments all sorted.
Then we heard that Simon’s flight was landing on time, so everything was looking good until we discovered that the flight had not brought Allan’s luggage!
This reminds me that I don’t think I mentioned that Allan’s flight last night actually landed at Pico the adjacent island because of low clouds on Faial, the Horta island, and he then had to get a ferry across only arriving at midnight. Fortunately and kindly he had brought a bottle of whisky, so that had kept us occupied for a while!
Hopefully, Allan’s kit will arrive on Tuesday and we will depart Wednesday, otherwise he may be in his shorts all the way to Dartmouth!
