A very fun day of adventures with Louise!
After a delayed start with “island time” late delivery of the hire car , we drove about 30 minutes steeply inland and hiked round Freshwater Lake and then up to Boeri Lake. We were warned this is the wettest part of the island and guide book (in their normal pessimistic way!) said the weather could be more like Scotland, but it stayed dry for us, a good easy trail, though a bit chilly for us to feel inclined to swim in the lakes.
We did swim in the MOST FANTASTIC place afterwards though! Ti Tou Gorge - where
the river has made a narrow and deeply incised gorge that you can swim about 100m into, with a waterfall at the head of the gorge. Natural swimming at its best.
The water theme continued as we then went to warm up in some natural hot sulphur spring baths and watched the stars come out through the trees….while sipping bush rum!
