Hi all
We are now at the island of Chicheme. This is the 1st island most people
visit as it is closest to Panama. Since I was last here things have changed,
the locals now let back packers camp on the island, there is a small palm
shelter and they sell beer. Some of the dug outs still are rowed but many
now have outboards. They trying to modernize, but still things are very
backwards. All the islands have an open hole which they call a well, this
provides the drinking water for the few families that live on the islands.
From the well (1m x 1m) they now have a battery operated pump that pumps the
water to a tank. One of the families has made a shower that they charge $1
per shower for.
As Vic mentioned the weather has been less than ideal, last night and today
it is chucking it down, we have filled our tanks with rain water and it is
still pouring. Cal's opi is full to the brim which means about 15 inches in
8 hours.
Today we will probably just mooch around and we hope to leave for Portobello
tomorrow morning.
