Hi All

Can you believe it, we have already been in Australia for a week, time
flies!
Julie my sister joined us for the last 4 days and we did a little touring
around Bundaberg. We went to the famous rum factory, talk about health and
safety at it's extreme!
Julie had to rent shoes as her sandals did not have a backing
strap.....essential when walking up a few stairs apparently. We all had to
remove cameras watches and even hearing aids before we could stand outside a
door looking at a few vats in a warehouse. The funny thing was the warehouse
was surrounded by an electric fence and the tour guide was talking on a PA
system, now I'm no electrical engineer, but I would imagine those 2 systems
have a slightly better chance of causing a spark than my watch? Apparently
they have had 2 fires at the factory so they want to be cautious, by the way
the fires were in 1906 and the really recent one was 1932, so you can see
the reason for the concern.
Anyway we drank their rum ate molasses and enjoyed the safety aspects of
this tour.
After that we went to the beach where the turtles lay their eggs, the laying
season has just started. Unfortunately none came up the beach that night to
lay eggs but the information the guides provided was great. Turtles only
become fertile at age 30, they travel the world then come back to the same
beach to lay there eggs. What is interesting is they lay 4 lots of about 120
eggs over the 4 month period. The males mate then leave at the beginning so
the females store the sperm for the 4 inseminations over the laying period.

So Julie has gone back to work, we are leaving for Frazer Island and should
be in Brisbane in the next week or so.

Time to send us updates on your lives, so we expect tons of emails next time
