Well, we are almost at the end of our stay here in
Fiji. We have loved this country. The people are so friendly, so
much to see, affordable, and so much left to see, we really only have scratched
the surface.
So after Julie left we took off back up to the
Yasawa islands.
this time we went to Waya island, where we
anchored just off a real backpackers place. Obviously this was so we could
watch the rugby. It was pouring down and a small TV is balanced on a small
ledge with wires all over the place, this all under a tin roof - classic.
Thankfully it was only Canada vs the Japs. Meanwhile Callum has found a
few local kids to play touch rugby with in the field. He was like a magnet
with his rugby ball! After the game Tim joins in and so do some of the
backpackers for a while - until their beer goggles were put on! Meanwhile,
Jessica has befriended the girls. Let me paint the picture some
more. This backpackers place is IN a local village, their huts are amongst
the locals tin houses. So when one of the local girls says 'come back to
my house and have your hair braided', off she goes. However she thought
they said come and have some bread!! So in a locals house she finds
herself having her hair braided. See pictures.
We gave ourselves a religious day (it was Sunday)
so a visit to the Hindu temple and then the local hariKrishna temple and
service. The former was lots of little areas where you can offer food to
the local god, half man half elephant (Have I got that right Shalini??) Very
interesting. Then after that we sat in on the Harikrishna service.
Tim manages to escape after 30 mins but I was not so lucky, I make it to 50
mines and then found a window! Lots of talking in I guess Hindi(?), some
drums and bells, but lots of fashions and interesting lying on the floor and
kissing it. Glad we did it but not sure we would do it
again!!!
After visititing the blue lagoon area and this is
where they made the film Blue Lagoon, we decided that it was nowhere near as
good as The Manta Ray Island, where we had made lots of friends with the locals
and staff in the small resort on the island. Another backpackers place and
a great time spent. Excellent snorkeling just off the beach, I spent hours
in there. We learnt to paddle board and it is much harder than it
looks. Jessica was adopted by one of the local staff, and was helping to
wait on tables. Callum was the local fire starter!! Thanks guys we
had a ball. xx
