Hi All
We are now up the Rio Chagres just outside of Colon. The river comes from
Lake Gatun which is what they damned when making the canal. KatyC followed
us across the bar, I was calling out depths as they are 2.4m deep. All of a
sudden I said 2.4M, then 2,5 and the next thing they hit bottom....They
quickly retreated, we then went back with them to find a deeper approach.
Eventually got them across, but not where the chart suggests is the
entrance.
Once we were up in the deep water, KatyC had a few scotches to calm there
nerves. What made it worse is on the reef at the entrance are 2 wrecked
boats that obviously did not get it right.
We now up the river, went to sleep and woke up with the roars of Howler
monkeys and parrots.
Today we going to go into the jungle to see if we can spot them.
Still hoping to get an earlier transit, but no news yet
