Hi guys
Believe it or not we are back in Gib.....so the
story goes like this..
After arriving back from our in land trip to
Tetoun, we were greeted by Neil who said the coast guard pulled up to them and
said GO. He tried to ask why but they had no answer, it was either go to Marina
Smir (ec80 per night and rubbish) or GO! He told them he had to pick us up at
the dock and we would be back soon. They said GO, he said NO, they said GO in 2
hours. They came to our boat and left a black stripe down the side, we were not
there so they left.
So the decision was to leave, however getting to El
Jebha during day light was impossible, so we sailed anyway and anchored just off
El Jebha for the night. In the morning Tiger arrived and we took the dink in to
find the deal. It was a horrible smelly fish cockroach stinking dock with no
space apart from tying off a fishing boat. They were however very
welcoming.
We upped anchor and went around the corner into a
dormant volcano and anchored there. We spent 2 nights there, Vicki and Rinelle
went hiking up the old volcano and we just hung around swimming etc. The wind
direction changed and made the anchorage rolly, so we decided to leave. By this
time we had had enough of morocco, sailing anyway, and decided to head back to
Gibraltar. We had a great sail back first under spinnaker, then under main and
Genoa. On the way we saw a pod of at least 100 dolphins that joined us for about
40 minutes, we then had 4 more pods join us at various times on the way back,
they always a joy to see.
When back here, we met with the few boats that
tried sailing in Morocco and decided that it should not be on anyone's sailing
itinerary.
So we have now pulled into the Marina for a few
days to clean the muck off the boat, do laundry and watch SA Aus play on
Saturday. Today we have Peter (one of the kids) birthday and Vic has made a cake
and everyone is coming aboard Karinya to celebrate. It really is nice to be able
to give the kids a normal birthday party etc.
