We spent a lovely morning in Figuera da Foz,
walking through the town and the park, before setting sail at
11.00am.
We thought you would appreciate seeing the 20m
berth we were allocated.
 At least it reached the mid-ships
cleat!
The wind was fair and stronger than forecast, so
we set off on a brisk beam reach. Since the conditions were great we
decided to head further south to Peniche rather than Nazare where we had planned
to stop. The forecast is for lighter winds tomorrow so it was good to make
progress.
On route a pod of dolphins came to investigate us,
then sped away.
In the afternoon the wind slackened, so we rolled
away the genoa and launched the gennaker. However by the time we had it flying
the wind eased even more, so we packed it away and motor-sailed for the last
part of the journey. At least it gave us some exercise!
We had to apply copious amounts of sun cream today
- the sky was cloudless, and the temperatures very warm earlier in the day.
Mosquitoes are proving a bit of a nuisance.
We are currently anchored outside the marina at
Peniche, off the beach, in a sheltered spot, where we should have a good night
before heading off to Cascais.
p.s. If youv'e sailed in UK waters and bemoaned the
number of lobster or fishing pots, then try the atlantic coast of Portugal. You
are continuosly having to weave a course through them in a band from a few
metres offshore to over 6 miles offshore, along the majority of the
coast.
