Laundry day

Island Wanderer
Peter and Avril Brookes
Tue 24 Aug 2010 19:10
As we prepare to leave the boat, we got on with some more jobs on board. Peter and Avril hosed down the genoa then the staysail and dried them before lowering and folding them for storage. Another boat on the pontoon followed suit and used the specially cleaned pontoon beside our boat to fold their spinnaker. Unfortunately a gust caught their sail, taking their baby with it and almost depositing him/her into the water. It took four of us to control the sail and prevent further mishap.

Our original cleaning method wasn't going to work on the main, so we sent Helen up the mast in the bosun's chair with the hose. It worked a treat, but what we didn't realise was the overspray went down the windscoop into the forecabin of a boat a little downwind of us. We only found out when the couple sleeping there came out.

Slave labour or what?                                                      We think the slave actually enjoyed herself

(Notice 180* change of wind direction? Very typical of our med experience, if there's any wind at all.)

Avril continued to make UV resistant hatch covers for the overhead hatches. 3 down, 3 to go. We are surprised how quickly the UV starts to to degrade plastics and other synthetics. Peter has serviced the engine and changed the engine and gearbox oil.
We enjoyed another lovely day of sunshine, realising that when we come home we have UK weather to contend with!
Tomorrow will be a big clean up, in preparation for taking the boat out of the water at 8am on Thursday morning. And that will be the end of "Our Big Adventure; Part1"
