Our Time here is coming to an end and we have gathered a string of happy memories in this beautiful bay. The stunning landscape of a typical Polynesian Island made us feel at home and the friendly welcome of some local sailors living ashore made our stay an easy and very pleasant one.
When we arrived, Suzy and Neil on Distant Drummer were already here and introduced us to David and Nancy Nottage, IMG_7999who opened their dock and home facilities to us. Some rides into Honolulu and Kailua allowed us to get on top of our list of jobs to do on Kahia and their local knowledge expanded our view on this part of the island. A sailor’s experience of a place so much depends on the people and facilities of the place and we had a wonderful time.

Randy and Sharon Erickson, also living in the bay prepared their boat sv Uhane Kai for the passage to Alaska, many errands were made together and of course many dinners shared.

Kaneohe yacht club was our first point of contact before arriving on the island of Oahu and we were very impressed with their facilities, weekly races and friendly staff.
The bus to Honolulu and Kailua stops right in front of the club, which made life very easy.

It is always a mystery, when we first anchor in a place and scan around the shore. The catamaran Kailuana, moored on a private dock not far from us was quickly spotted.
Dave Lung was one of the first ones coming to see us and we appreciated his welcome and hospitality. At 83 he had many fascinating stories to tell.

Distant Drummer moved on to the island of Kauai and we are now getting ready for our next ocean passage of about 2500 miles Northwards to the Strait of Juan de Fuca and British Columbia.
