Force 7/8 winds, waves up to 6 m and confused seas is just a rough ride that makes everything harder. Muscles ache that have not been working for months, movements around the boat is hard work and waves crushing over us keeps one alert.
The perfect conditions to practice relaxing and letting go of fear!
I might be called iron guts and can cook in those conditions but my nerves can melt down like chocolate in the sun. I lost it yesterday evening, when, very tired and ready to jump into the bunk, there was still that leak in the forward cabin that Paul wanted to sort out and in a second too late a wave gushed over his head into the cabin and the bed, mattress, pillows, blankets etc got soaked! Just imagine a bucket of salt water being thrown over your bed!
Well after my melt down and packing all the wet stuff away to be dealt with in port, we reassured each other that all will be fine.
Sure enough, after a good sleep in the saloon bunk and after another session of draining water from the fuel today, the engine ran well and charged up our batteries. The fridge is back on and Paul had the energy to knead a fresh bread.
