Writing from beautiful and picturesque Angra do Heroismo, the capital of Terceira. We arrived here this morning at about 7.30 UTC after 105 nm of night passage sailing from Vila da Franca.

The people are far more welcoming and friendly than Ponta Delgada and the small marina much more welcoming and prettier, than the concrete jungle of the modern town. Well, our first impression is super and we look forward to seeing more tomorrow, when less jaded! The weirdest fashion on this island is the “Touradas a corda” where a bull is held on a cord by 7 shepherds running through the town or village and men getting chased in the streets. It’s mad and dangerous, we were warned at the tourist information with a schedule of “bull releases”, so we look out not to get caught in one of those. Another hint is a canon shot. One meaning the bull is out, two shots, the bull is in and the streets are safe. The bull does not get hurt... but guys get badly tossed.
