We have sailed well over the halfway point and are very pleased to still be able to sail. The winds are light but we are gently moving forward at a speed of 3 to 4 knots over the ground. The sea is calm and this is one of our most peaceful passages for a long time. We are able to have dinner and breakfast at the table in the cockpit and we are both relaxed, appreciating a sense of timelessness and space.
Yesterday we hooked a sailfish or white marlin and as we were taking in the line and watching it fight to get off, we took our time to deliberate if it was a good idea to land it. Rather large, full of energy and with its sharp sword, we had to build up our own stamina. Leaving it in the water that little longer, it was able to hook the line over the hydrovane rudder, freed itself and shot out of sight in a second. We were pleased to see it gone and had veal steaks for dinner instead.
