The wind dropped last night and we gently sailed at 3 knots in a calm sea and moonlit night. A couple of black and impressive cumulus nimbus rain burst, typical for the doldrums washed off all the salt on Kahia and off us.
When the wind dropped completely, we found ourselves becalmed and drifting due East. So we motored Northwards for only two hours, giving the batteries a charge up. The wind soon piped up again from the East and at 02:30 am enabled us to hoist full sails and since then we have been well on our way at a good speed of 6 knots.
Although we were becalmed, we still managed to cover 130 miles on day 5.
Total distance covered so far: 710 miles and distance to go 1300 miles.

Now we are able to gently curve our course towards Hawaii and look forward to freshening NE Trade winds and clearer skies.
Bread is baking in the oven, adding to the stifling heat below decks...but it does smell delicious!
Roll on sunset, when we can take our second shower of the day and cool down again.
