It was a very pleasant sail from Rangiroa to here. We arrived after sunset and crept slowly into the anchorage of Venus Point, Matavai Bay. This is the same anchorage where "Endeavor" was anchored in 1769 and Captain James Cook came specifically to observe the transit of Venus across the sun in the hope to determine the sun's distance from the earth. He returned in 1777 and so did one of his trusted sailing master in 1788, Captain William Bligh aboard the infamous "Bounty".
Anchoring in the dark was made easy as no other vessel was anchored here, so we had the bay to ourselves. One of the most tranquil anchorages we had in many weeks, also due to the fact that the wind has dropped.
We feel well rested after a good night sleep and look forward to spending time in the glorious and beautiful Society Islands.
