Another good 24 hr run covering approximately 170 nm, all down wind. Apart from a few adjustments to the Hydro vane  self steering and reefing down (reducing sail area)  at night (just incase it blows up ) we feel like we are creaming along. Had a go at fishing with our flying fish as bait, but no luck so far, it could be that we are just too fast, the last two caught were when our boat speed was between 4-6 knots, not 7-9 sometimes 10 knots as it has been for the past few days. Anyway, maybe we can`t have it all; we do have plenty of food onboard and this fast sailing is thrilling.
Around day break we saw a mast on our Starboard Quarter about a mile behind us and gaining on us, what excitement, the first yacht to be seen on this passage. So, out came all the reefs a bit of trimming of sails here and there, which added another one or two knots to our speed. Complete waste of time. When she came up alongside about half a mile away, she turns out to be Zephino, a 100 ft long super-yacht on her way to Nuku Hiva, Northern Marquesas (a confirmation that we are going the right way!). Catherine had a pleasant chat with the Owner in German on the VHF radio. He had five crew on board and all I understood was the word "wunderbar" which was very encouraging. They had covered the same distance from the Galapagos 5 days less than us. Anyway, after saying Bon voyage, she unfurled her massive cruising chute and was out of sight in less than an hour.
