We took a dinghy ride to Porvernir to check out of the San Blas Islands with customs and port authority and then sailed to Chichime for our last night at anchorage.

We will miss the familiar sights of ulus being rowed or sailed by the Kunas.

We experienced very friendly people. Contact and conversations were mainly part of a business transaction. Trading was the main interest when the locals came towards us.

We spend our last night in Chichime and it was lovely to meet our Kuna friends again.

Lucie Vera (at the back of the ulu) gave me a little mola as a gesture of friendship, which was really touching and I felt sad seeing them leave Kahia for the last time.

The sewing skills of the women have turned them into serious cash earners which enhances the matrilineal position in the Kuna Society, where a husband moves into his wife’s family’s compound.                  

Traditional Molas have abstract designs, some having a meaning. The more tourist orientated molas represent animals and nature themes.                 Local basket work
