We have spent the last 2 weeks back at West Palm Beach waiting for a new life raft. Our old one needed servicing and we discovered that it is close to the end of its workable life and would cost $1200 (half the cost of a new one). We decided to get a new one instead. We also decided to get another 8 man raft even though it is unlikely we will ever have that many people crossing an ocean – even that size only gives you a floor area of 6’ x 6’. We are also carrying a second life raft for Dave and Marcie who we will meet up with in the Bahamas, and our old one that we may be able to sell. Three altogether so we should be OK across the Gulf Stream!

The weather has finally provided a brief window to get across the Gulf Stream tomorrow so we have relocated back up to the inlet of Lake Worth in preparation. We will probably have to sail overnight to get to Great Harbour Cay at the north end of the Berry Islands before the next cold front arrives on Sunday.

Fingers crossed that the ‘Florida Vortex’ will finally let us go.......
