The novelty of being at an anchor with a pretty palm tree island on one side and the skyscrapers of Miami on the other is beginning to wear off. Nick has spent the last week trying to find local riggers to replace the forward crossbeam that was damaged when we hit the unmarked buoy off the Cape Cod Canal last July. He has spent hours on the phone and on the internet looking for people who can do it and places where it could be done. Some are saying the boat will need to be hauled again so we need to be somewhere that could accommodate that if needs be.  There is also the problem of not being able to get to many of the places on the Intra Coastal Waterway because of the 65ft bridges being too low for our mast. He has also been trying to sort out shipping the beam from the UK – Colchester.

Meanwhile I have been helping with the analysis of Max’s fish videos again…….hours of watching 2 client fish and 1 cleaner fish interact in a tank!

Some excitement in the week though. Chuck and Henry needed to do a sailing course in order to charter a catamaran for their holiday in Belize next month and it turned out to be based in Fort Lauderdale. We had lunch with them when they arrived on Friday and then they sailed here on the following Tuesday. Rum punches in the cockpit at sunset – just like the old days.  The last time we saw Henry was with Max and my mother in Cambridge – who would have thought Miami would be next. It was really lovely to see them both.
