An uneventful departure this morning, passing through the SE 17th Street Bridge at 07.30. Then a fast sail 40 miles further north to the boatyard that will haul us tomorrow morning.

We were chased out by a huge container ship that luckily was as courteous as it claimed. \they do make you feel very small.

Todays excitement, the mainsail got stuck when we tried to drop it when we reached our destination – a major problem as the only option if it won’t come down is to go up the mast and cut it down. 70m2 of heavy sail cloth loose on the deck is not fun. The wind was blowing at about 20 knots too to compound the problem.  Luckily we managed to get it down using many ropes and winches not usually involved – and more than a few expletives!

We are now having a recuperative cup of tea in the relative calm of the intracoastal waterway.
