30 April – Day trip to Molasses Reef, Florida Keys
Today we went to the barrier reef again - 5 miles off Rodriguez Key to Molasses Reef. Like all the other we visited it is a designated Special Protected Area within which all marine life is protected with the exception of Lionfish that can be caught with nets but not spearguns.
Visibility was good here too with many very amusing Chub
that were obviously expecting to be fed. They appeared as soon as we took up
one of the obligatory mooring buoys and came up really close to whoever was in
the water.
We returned to Rodriguez Key and had an uneventful evening.
Max made supper whilst we watched the sunset. (He is wearing one of my
favourite of the T-shirts all three of them frequently make each other for
gifts. This one is of an axolotl – a neotenic salamander that displays
(retaining its juvenile features into adulthood)!
