5 Jun – West End, Grand Bahama

We left Bimini at 06.30 having waited for a weather window. The forecast was gentle southerly winds and we got 10-15 knots from the north! After motoring for 9 hours in to the wind, the starboard engine was as unimpressed as we were and started to misfire. Luckily the port engine was rested and got us to West End on Grand Bahama with no problems.
Anchoring turned out to a problem though with very poor
holding on rocks. Having tried to anchor in the spot we had when here last
December, the anchor chain got snarled around a large rock with a fierce tide
competing with strong winds from a passing squall. We managed to escape after an hour and a half
wrestling with the rock and were rewarded with a particularly gorgeous sunset
that was much more pink than the photo shows – and coloured most of the sky.
