18 Aug – Boston, Massachusetts – Day 3 morning!
Nick went in search of a supermarket and a ‘Home Depot’ for glue to fix his shoes. It turned into a 20 mile ride out of town much of which was along the Harbour Walk. Worthy of comment:
The Harpoon Brewery
The John F Kennedy Museum and Library
Another Dunkin’ Donuts – apparently more here than any other US city….?
The Gillette Factory. Founded in 1901, it isold 51 razors and 168 blades in its first year. In 1904 the numbers had increased to 90,000 razors and 120,000 blades, by 1911 over 35 million blades! All because of his patent on the funny shaped holes in the middle of the blade (for those of you keen to know more from the World Shaving Headquarters)!
And of course, geese at the beach
Nick eventually left the walk and found himself in a major road where a police car saw him and decided to escort him down said road by driving slowly behind to warn traffic of his presence! No photo sadly.
Groceries and glue successfully purchased, he returned via the site of the notorious Boston Tea Party and a replica of one of the ships that performs regular re-enactments. Paul Revere was also involved in this protest against ‘Taxation without Representation’. The British tea that was looted and thrown over board would have been worth £1 million today.
