Sailing from Cape Cod to Nantucket we passed through the whale feeding site again. This time no humpbacks but a very close encounter with 2 huge Fin whales that seemed completely oblivious of our presence. They surfaced about 10ft from the bow of the boat and Nick took evasive action rather than photos sadly. We decided hitting 73 tons of whale was too risky and we aren’t sure how an angry whale might react, if it even notices a mere 15 tons!

They can grow to 90ft, the second largest animal on earth and have been called ‘the greyhound of the sea’ because of their sleek streamlined bodies and very fast speeds.

We planned to stop on the Atlantic coast of Cape Cod but strong winds made it difficult to get in to the shallow harbour safely so we went on to the northern point of Nantucket and a view as different from any we have had for a while.
