Nick went to see the very grumpy customs man this morning to get the cruising permit we need to continue. Despite being a port of entry, the office is closed here on a Tuesday and Wednesday! So now we have the last piece of the puzzle and can travel anywhere in the States for the next 6 months!!!  A Canadian boat was trying to achieve the same were told to go back to Nassau (400 south) or have their boat impounded – they had the wrong visa…….

It was a long cycle (with puncture) and a long process so he went for a McDonald's milkshake on the way back – via the drive though. Caused chaos as he wasn't in a car but they did decide they could serve him, eventually!

He also passed the very amusing ‘Showboat Carwash’ that we were equally amused by last time we were here – looking for a boat to buy…. and some weird palm trees.

Meanwhile Chuck and Gretchen went around the 300 year old Spanish fortification ‘Castillo de San Marcos’. It is made of a unique sedimentary rock called Coquina that looks more like cement holding small sea shell fragments together. It is very soft and as a consequence, absorbs the impact of cannon fire. The fort has never been lost in battle, changing hands only through treaties.
