07/05/22 We Left Gerbekse at 1005 after going ashore and visiting the Byzantine chapel and ruins of the old trading port. We had to motor sail all the way with very little NW wind on the beam. Typically though as soon as it was time to anchor In Ekincik, the wind filled in from the South making a horrible swell on a lee shore in 13 -15knts of wind. Even when the wind did eventually reduce, the swell continued making it very unpleasant in the boat. We were both very tired after the previous night so we thought we would sleep well, so decided not to go to My Marina just across the bay or go onto the town quay. The swell did calm down and we slept all night without the anchor alarm going off once. 08/05/22 We were trying to arrange a visit to the ancient ruins in Kaunos but the tourist guide who came to the boat as we arrived yesterday said he would be back at 1900 that night to chat to us about a trip, did not appear again until 0845 the next morning. Anyway, we negotiated a price for a mornings tour and he picked us up from Muskie at 0915 to take us up the Dalyan river to Kaunos ancient site and the rock tombs further up the river. There was just the two of us on the boat so we were able to negotiate our own times for stops and the itinerary, just marvellous. We had a lovely day visiting the sites that are well worth the visit, just amazing history and archaeological excavations. During the trip up the Dalyan river we saw turtles that come back to Iztuzu beach to lay their eggs. These hatch two months later in July. If we come back this way we might just be able to see some baby turtles making their hazardous journey across the beach to the sea. We got back to muskie at 1640, not bad for a mornings tour.
