Saturday 17th November 2007

Well, this is it.  We’ve started.  We left the comfort of our berth in Puerto Calero, our home for the last 4 months, at 10.20 this morning.  A lovely sunny morning, blue skies and a few fluffy white clouds.  One teeny problem – no wind!!  Well not much anyway.  The forecast shows very light winds for at least the next 4 days.  We motored for the first 2 hours away from Lanzarote with 5 knots of wind bang on the nose in the direction we want to go… Mad dogs and Englishman… need we say more.

12.30 – wind moved round enabling us to hoist the sails and turn off the engine – hooray!

15.50 – We are just off Rosario on the coast of Fuertaventura doing a comfortable 5 to 6 knots in around 10 to 12 knots of wind.  Hopefully this wind will hold for the night enabling us to continue our progess south.  All is well with us and the stress of getting us and the boat ready over the last couple of days is finally disappearing.  Sailing at last and loving it…

Fishing rod is out and have had one false alarm so far.  Plastic bag!  Bugger!

16.00 – Now motoring again to get around the headland avoiding having to tack which would take us in completely the wrong direction.  If all goes well we will get the sails out again and continue on our southerly route.

That’s all for now…..We will log back in tomorrow sometime after mid day to update you with the next installment….

Leaving Puerto Calero, Lanzarote.  We’ll be back one day….
