Weds 5th Aug 09 to Mon 10th Aug 09

Spent a bit of time this morning cleaning the anchor chain while hauling the anchor to leave, a little after 10.30am.  The chain has turned into Chewbacca in just 2 weeks!  We sailed under headsail only, for the short trip, with the wind just aft of the beam.  It took a little over an hour to do almost 8nm.  It was very windy at times, hitting 29 knots at one point as we headed into the bay.  We found a nice sandy patch to drop the anchor, very close to Puddle Jumper and Kajun Diva, just on the outskirts of the rest of the anchorage.  Not brilliant holding here as we know, but should be ok as long as we get no big gusts.

We had heard earlier in the week that Port Louis, the nearby marina, had a special deal on over the Carnival weekend - pay for 2 nights and get 1 night free plus a bucket of Carib beer for each night thrown in - and we'd been giving it some serious thought.  We had some concerns about the holding here anyway and in view of the fact that we'd be off the boat partying for long periods of time, we were also a little worried about boat security being that we were anchored so far from the rest of the boats in the anchorage, and quite close in to shore.  Safety in numbers, as they say.  Grenada is a very safe place but you still get the odd boat burgled.  Throwing into the pot that it was also quite a long dinghy ride to and from the anchorage and town, we finally decided to treat ourselves and go for it.  This would be our first stay in a marina since leaving Puerto Calero, Lanzarote way back in November 2007!!!!

What a brilliant decision.  The marina itself was not quite finished, so the facilities were a little thin on the ground, and it was also really built for mega yachts, but we enjoyed it big time.  Such a treat.  We felt like kids on Christmas morning when we carefully moored up to the pontoon, with no help I might add, and soon got into the swing again of being in a Marina.  There was even a pool.  Heaven!  Quite a few other yachties had taken up the offer too and there was a great party spirit amongst everyone.  Perfect for getting to and from all the Carnival activities too without the need of a dinghy.  We could just walk!  Such a novelty.
