Almerimar Arriving into Almerimar around teatime, our first stop was the fuel dock; another £120!… and just because the wind won’t blow 😉. Paperwork checked, we were soon stern-to on the quay, immediately opposite the Club Nautico restaurant in the marina. Slightly wary about the noise, our fears proved largely unfounded as evening came on; easy listening tunes and a general hubbub of chatter was all we were subjected to. As we are staying here four nights, we put up all our newly-strengthened awnings and sunshades. We have power and water so pretty civilised as life afloat goes! This is a big marina complex, with plenty of bars and restaurants, a supermarket a short walk away and joy of joys (for Simon and Nigel anyway), two chandleries… a new ball fender to protect the stern which has been on Simon’s wish list since last August, a few more cleats to put in the lazzarette for storage of ropes and other incidentals all purchased. Yesterday (Weds) was a jobs morning after croissants and custard tarts were enjoyed, and we treated ourselves to Gazpacho and tortilla for lunch afterwards. Yum. Dinner was sea bass, expertly cooked (but unfortunately not caught) by Simon, was slightly later than planned as the Test match highlights were linked from iPad to the television to the delight of the boys, followed by a stroll around the marina to the gelateria… pistachio, tiramisu, baileys and chocolate jungle… in case you are wondering!! Bed around midnight! Cruising here is very different to the Caribbean in terms of the hours kept. Over there it was basically dark by 6.30pm and we tended to be in bed before 9.30pm but were up as the sun rose at 6.30-7am. Here in S Spain it’s not light till 7.30am, ridiculously hot during the siesta hours in the afternoon, and then all livens up again after about 8pm. This morning we all did our HIIT PE session in a shady spot first thing; completed a few more jobs, a few loads of washing in our machine (a complete game changer!) and preps for dinner tonight. Washed down the deck, filled the water tanks and lo and behold it was beer o'clock lunchtime! Plans for a peaceful afternoon and a bit of personal admin time to follow… Sally New ball fender protecting our hydrovane and Watt&Sea generator from the harbour wall Cricket highlights... |
