Sunday morning at anchor in Muxia We spent yesterday making ground towards Finisterre where we will eventuallly be able to turn south and start heading down to Portugal. I have to say from my perspective, as an slightly unwilling and novice chart user, our destinations are always (as they were on long walks as a child) around the next corner/ headland or over the next hill/ bay…… As ever on this journey, the winds have not played fair and although it would have been a healthy sailing breeze yesterday, it was coming from exactly our heading so again, 20% sail, 80% motor 🙁. We arrived in Muxia, our chosen anchorage for 24 hours, to sit out an expected period of bad weather. At least we had plenty of hot water onboard for hot showers, so clean and with cold drinks and nibbles, we watched the comings and goings ashore before dinner. It looks a pretty little village, but I’m not sure that with the expected conditions today we will manage to get the dinghy ashore for further exploration. So…… for most of last night, there wasn’t enough wind to keep us constantly at right angles to the Atlantic swell coming into the bay, so, broadside on, we have wallowed and wobbled all night. For those of you thinking a gentle rocking, akin to a baby’s crib, think again! My closest analogy would be trying to sleep on a trampoline, whilst both my grandchildren bounce around (not in unison obvs). Every muscle in my body aches as my core has tried to keep me steady all night on a moving platform. Add into the mix the inevitable, squeaks, groans, water slapping, waves crashing, dogs on shore yapping and you will be somewhere close to my sleep or lack of it last night. Finally gave up, and currently in the cockpit where it’s not too windy yet and the sun is shining (rain nearby and rainbow pictured below). A whole day to fill, not much on the current jobs list…. just a shame the weather isn’t better! Coffee, Sunday papers and a catch up with folk at home. Love to all. xx Sally ![]() |
