Weekend in Portsmouth Dominica. After finally clearing out from Guadeloupe: Simon did the paperwork and Catherine found a great bakery for bread and pastries) we had a fast sail to Dominica. It was a bit bouncy for me and we all had our life jackets on, and the occasional wave over the seats, but it did mean we arrived in good time. We found The Adventurer (Jean-Marc and Vanessa) and anchored nearby. It had been an early start so we were all a bit weary but once we had checked into Dominica and once again cleared customs we were ready to join the party! This week here in Prince Rupert Bay, Portsmouth is the 2nd annual festival for yachties and Saturday night was the welcome party with rum punch and food. A chance to meet new people and tell tall tales!😉 Unfortunately Catherine is still rather under the weather and had completely lost her voice, irritating for her but somewhat comical for the rest of us….why is it when someone can barely be heard you feel obliged to whisper back?🤣🤣 Sunday dawned hot and sunny with calm sea and as a rather large commercial workboat had picked up a mooring close to us we thought a move to a bigger space was a wise move. Just as we were ready to set the anchor we saw a solitary bottle nosed dolphin playing in our bow wave and staying close by. We delayed dropping to watch and take video from the boat. There was also a dinghy close by with 3 generations of Czechs, Granny, Mum and 6 year old who were also looking to play with the dolphin. Eventually we needed to turn off the engine and settle on the anchor but the dolphin obviously enjoyed our company as he stayed around for at least another hour while we all went to snorkel watch. An unforgettable moment. In fact the dolphin was still around all afternoon……magical. We then went off in the evening for the Festival BBQ with Jean-Marc and Vanessa. It was rather fitting that this would be our final meeting; we had first met there on Dec 17th last year on our wedding anniversary, and they have become good friends we have met up with and shared fun evenings in assorted countries since. Much rum punch was consumed and there was an attempt on the dance floor! This time we had taken the sensible option and booked a water taxi there and back.🤣🤣 Sally ![]() ![]() |
